JOB REQUIREMENTS: Job Summary: The University of Wisconsin-Madison seeksa director for its Program in English as a Second Language. This is afull-time, twelve-month permanent academic staff position at the levelof Teaching Faculty IV. The Director manages all aspects of the Programin ESL, which serves more than 1000 matriculated undergraduate andgraduate students studying English for Academic Purposes.Responsibilities include overseeing the daily operation of the Program,as well as carrying out long term planning and development, includingstrategic planning, budgeting, program design, and curriculum revisionand review. The Director is responsible for the hiring, training, anddevelopment of instructional staff. The Director oversees the testing;placement; and evaluation of students; manages enrollment and courseaccess; which includes coordinating the timetable; course offerings; andteaching assignments; the administration of undergraduate and graduateUW Madison TESOL certificates; and teaches one course per semester inthe UW Madison TESOL Certificate Program. The ESL Director reportsdirectly to the Director of the Center for Teaching and Research onWriting (CTRW). The Director serves as a liaison with the L&S Divisionof Teaching and Learning. The Director participates in EnglishDepartment and campus wide committees. When requested, the Directoroversees special English language support needs across campus. TheDirector participates in national and international conferences withinthe TESOL arena. Working within the Department of English, the Directorensures teaching excellence within the ESL program. Responsibilities:Provides classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction associatedwith more than one lecture or laboratory course. Assists with the designand execution of administrative functions associated with academicinstruction and the development of pedagogy/andragogy or assessmenttools and resources to support quality student learning. Providesfor-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/orlaboratory settings, including grading.
