Schedule: Full-time - 187 days over 10 months aligned to the school district calendar - end of August to mid-June. Additional days during the Summer of 2024 will be contracted in order to get this new charter school ready in time for the 2024-2025 school year.

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate English Language Learners (ELL) Teacher with expertise in English Language Arts & Literature instruction for middle and high school levels at the newly approved charter school - The Billings Multilingual Academy. Interested educators will have an opportunity to help design, develop and inaugurate this new charter school the summer of 2024. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality instruction and support to students who are learning English as an additional language, particularly in the context of English Language Arts & Literature during the 2024-2025 school year. The ELL Teacher will collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement effective instructional strategies tailored to meet the diverse needs of English Language Learners in English Language Arts & Literature. This position offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the academic and linguistic development of students from diverse cultural backgrounds within the realm of English Language Arts & Literature education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in English Language Arts & Literature Education with a valid, or eligible for, Montana teaching license for Grades 5-12 (Master's degree preferred but not required).
• Additional credentials in TESOL, Linguistics, ESL, Bilingual Education, or a related field.
• Experience working with English Language Learners in a middle or high school educational setting, with a focus on English Language Arts & Literature instruction.
• Knowledge of second language acquisition theories & models, best practices in language teaching, and cultural competency as they relate to English Language Arts & Literature education.
• Strong instructional planning and classroom management skills, particularly in the context of English Language Arts & Literature instruction.
• Ability to differentiate English Language Arts & Literature instruction to meet the diverse needs of English Language Learners from newcomers to emergent and long-term ELs.
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching practices within the context of English Language Arts & Literature education.
• Fluency in a second language (preferred).
• Experience with instructional technology and digital resources for English Language Arts & Literature instruction and language learning (preferred).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Design and deliver engaging and differentiated English Language Arts & Literature instruction to English Language Learners in middle and high school, considering various proficiency levels and mathematical concepts, ensuring alignment with state standards and educational best practices.
• Develop and implement individualized learning plans for ELL students with diverse linguistic and academic needs in English Language Arts & Literature, including those with limited or interrupted formal education (SLIFE).
• Provide language and English Language Arts & Literature content support to ELL students in mainstream English Language Arts & Literature classrooms through co-teaching, push-in, or pull-out models, ensuring that language barriers do not hinder mathematical understanding and application.
• Assess students' language proficiency and mathematical understanding using appropriate formative and summative assessment tools, and use data to inform instructional planning and decision-making in English Language Arts & Literature.
• Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure the integration of language development and English Language Arts & Literature instruction across the middle and high school curriculum.
• Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that values cultural diversity and promotes students' linguistic and growth within the context of English Language Arts & Literature education.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, and stakeholders, providing regular updates on students' progress and offering resources and support for English language and English Language Arts & Literature development at home.
• Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in the field of English Language Arts & Literature education for English language learners and multicultural education.
• Stay current with research and trends in second language acquisition, culturally responsive teaching, and educational technology as they relate to English Language Arts & Literature education, and apply findings to improve instructional practices.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement school-wide initiatives to support English Language Learners and promote equity and diversity in the middle and high school community.
