Position: Deputy Program Director

Department: Adult Education

Reports to: Director of Adult Education

Hours: Full-Time

Salary: $58,500

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Position Summary:

Union Settlement Adult Education is seeking a Deputy Program Director. The Deputy Program Director will be an integral part of our Adult Education team, helping our Department development programs increase their effectiveness and impact, while maintaining our student-centered values. This is an exciting new role for the organization, representing an expansion of our Program team and our commitment to growing operational infrastructure. The Deputy Program Director will have a demonstrated track record of succeeding on strategic, managerial, and hands-on levels, and will work collaboratively with team members across the organization. The agency has embraced the concept of a fully-integrated system of care for all consumers of service. This requires that all agency staff assess the client”s needs holistically and see it as their responsibility to connect the client with services needed - internal or external to the agency - regardless of the door through which the consumer enters the system.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the management of our robust Adult Education Program, which serves over 600 students each year, including day-to-day operations, seasonal planning, staff training, student recruitment & outreach, seasonal staff hiring, troubleshooting challenges, and adapting and refining program structure, processes, and materials as needed.
  • Ensure all Adult Education Program administrative responsibilities are executed efficiently and accurately, including application management, student attendance, internship placement, developing detailed program calendars, monitoring internship hours, tracking progress towards goals, and participant success rates.
  • Collaborate with the Employer Partnerships team to ensure collaboration between agency and companies in matching Students to appropriate opportunities.
  • Problem-solve with team members to troubleshoot any program or academic challenges that arise involving students.
  • Provide oversight for and/or lead select program partnerships, pilot programs, and other program initiatives; work with the Program Director and Adult Education team to plan the strategy for and management of all aspects of newly created programs.
  • Collaborate with the Data Management Coordinator to develop and improve program data collection and data management practices.
  • Facilitate and develop strategies to engage recent migrants, community members, schools and partners in our programs; help design engaging and relevant programming to meet the emerging needs of organization stakeholders.
  • Provide indirect services to students:
    • Maintain documentation of evaluation, ongoing instructional programs, student progress, and communications
    • Prepare reports and collect data as requested by and required by private and public funders
    • Attend related meetings relevant to program and students
    • Consult counselors, administrators, and co-workers regarding HSE, ESOL, Career Training program
    • Present and interpret program to a variety of audiences in a variety of settings, if necessary
    • Consult with education and employment counselor to develop and maintain student”s educational and employment plan
    • Provide a comfortable and supportive learning environment
    • Adhere to curriculum
    • Assist in the supervision of instructional staff that teach multiple subjects using a variety of methodologies, ranging from individualized instruction to small groups to whole group lessons
    • Integrate technology into instruction and keep up to date on instructional technology
    • Seek to create a learning environment that is successful to helping students reach their personal, academic, and professional goals
    • Together with Program Director and Data Manager, work to improve and maintain effective internal operational systems for programs.
Professional Development:
  • Attend and participate in department staff meetings as required
  • Participate in professional development/in-service per year as required by funder
  • Participate in the supervision/evaluation process
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Master”s degree in Education, or Public Administration,
  • Bachelor”s Degree in education, English, Public Administration, TESOL
  • Experience working with the migrant adults community
  • At least one to three years of leadership experience in roles focused on program management, staff supervision and growth, program operations, and/or program development and implementation.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams and coordinating resources to meet deadlines and deliverables; able to take initiative, think creativity, willingness to learn, grow, and listen to a range of perspectives.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to racial, economic and social justice, and a belief in the power and potential of engaged communities.
  • Capable of juggling multiple tasks independently, while still gathering input from stakeholders including students, alumni, program coordinators, and partners.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills; great attention to detail and ability to think critically.
  • Strong computer proficiency in MS Office. Strong research skills and ability to analyze data and synthesize multiple sources of information and report out.
  • Ability to model professional dress and workplace conduct
  • Deadline oriented with strong ability to follow through on tasks with little supervision
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility, adaptability and ability to work in a changing environment.
