Note: Teachers dually certified in TESOL, Bilingual Education or ESL, with experience in Sheltered Instruction or fluency in a language other than English, will be given preference for all Stamford Public School positions.
General Statement:
The Associate Superintendent - Middle Schools is responsible for coaching, mentoring, and supervising K-8 and 6-8 School principals and supports all efforts in those schools to ensure alignment with district and school goals.
The Associate Superintendent - Middle Schools reports to the Superintendent and is a member of the Superintendent”s Cabinet.
Major Responsibilities:
- Coach/Mentor/Supervise and Evaluate Principals
- Coaching and Mentoring/Supervising and Evaluating - Provide guidance and direction to and supervise and evaluate approximately seven (7) principals in meeting district-wide and school goals.
- Communication - Work closely and communicate regularly as part of a highly collaborative executive leadership team to ensure cohesion among school buildings.
- School Improvement Planning and Monitoring - Support principals in the development, progress monitoring and implementation of SIPs - establish and manage alignment of SIPs with District Goals and Objectives; ensure SIP use of district strategies; align stakeholders around strategic vision.
- Development of Vision and Strategy for K-8 & 6-8 Schools
- Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment - Oversee implementation of best instructional practices; ensure students are receiving rigorous Tier 1 instruction; collaborate with district staff to develop and implement programs and initiatives designed to meet the needs of all students.
- Implementation of District Vision - Ensure alignment between BOE, Superintendent, Central Office, Principals and Teachers with a focus on learning / performance goals.
- Other Duties
- Coordinate with and respond to the Board of Education, City Departments and City Boards - Engineering Department, Risk Management Department, IT Department, Controller”s Office, Planning Board, Board of Finance, and other Boards as needed.
- Collaborate with other Associate Superintendents, department heads, principals, etc.
- Engage directly in matters of personnel and human resources.
- Recommend positions for addition and elimination as part of the budgetary process.
- Participate in recruitment, hiring and staffing decisions for principals and other staff that yields high quality staff.
- Provide input to the Superintendent in preparation for collective bargaining negotiations with certified employees on behalf of the District.
- Coordinate with State and Federal organizations as needed.
- Represent the Superintendent of Schools as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

- Knowledge of and/or demonstrate the ability to learn and implement Operating Systems (i.e. Windows); Office suites (i.e. Microsoft Office, Google Docs); Presentation Software (i.e. PowerPoint, Keynote); Spreadsheets (i.e. Excel, Google Spreadsheets); Communication and Collaboration tools (i.e. Skype); Accounting Software (i.e. QuickBooks); Student Information Systems (i.e. Naviance, PowerSchool); or any other technology deemed relevant for this position.
Qualifications:
- CT CSDE Intermediate Administration or Supervision certification (092) or eligibility.
- A minimum of five (5) years experience in educational leadership position
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a school principal.
- Demonstrated record of achievement in an urban school district and up-to-date familiarity with developments and trends in teaching and learning
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in Stamford Public Schools” strategic focus areas.
- Superior communication skills (oral and written)
- High standards of ethics, honesty and integrity
- Organizational and leadership experience including data analysis, decision-making, experience in professional development, and grant management
- Budget management expertise
